BYOD: use of personal devices at work

Use personal devices at work or BYOD represents one of the new trends in the business world when it comes to managing computer equipment and technological devices used by workers in the company. Its acronym in English means ‘Bring Your Own Device’ . If years ago the employer was expected to provide the technological means necessary to perform the job, today many employees request to be able to use their own personal computer and mobile phone to work.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Policy

Several factors are contributing to more and more companies adopting a BYOD policy with the vast majority of the workforce. On the one hand, there is the desire of employees to use devices with which they are more comfortable being familiar with them and, on the other, the economic advantage for companies that they should not make large investments in technology every so often.

However, not everyone is in favor of employees using their own computers to carry out their work activities. Many IT managers fear for the company’s infrastructure by not being able to exercise full control over user computers and they ensure that, in this way, data theft is facilitated despite the new security solutions that have been developed for these cases in recent years. In addition, this type of business policy is also opposed by those workers who are not willing to have to put their personal assets at the service of the company, as they prefer to clearly differentiate their own resources from those of the company that employs them. .

In any case, BYOD represents one of the most relevant changes in the relationship between technology and the business world in recent times and it seems that it will only grow in the coming years.
